If you missed the topic about the calorie counting, please read first the previous part of this article by following this link. After that… let’s continue learning.
Complaint #3: I hate being hungry all the time.
So do I! This is a common complaint that actually has nothing to do with calorie counting at all. Being hungry all the time is an effect of those fad starvation diets or Very Low Calorie Diets, and NOT an effect of knowing how much you are eating.
It’s kind of like claiming that the weight scale causes bulimia or anorexia. Obviously, the correct use of the scale doesn’t cause any such thing, but people who have suffered from bulimia or anorexia may associate the scale with the illness. Similarly, calorie counting does not involve being hungry all the time. People who count calories can eat whatever they choose whenever they choose, and feeling guilty is not a part of any healthy living plan!
Many people who reject calorie counting as a tool for weight management base it on the principle that “Eating whole foods and trying not to overeat is enough to maintain a healthy weight.” If you are one of the people for whom this is true, that’s wonderful! Eating whole foods is a very good idea, and if you have a good sense of your stomach’s capacity, you’re likely to be fairly successful. However, there are many people for whom “trying not to overeat” is simply not enough. It could be that your metabolism changed with age and you can no longer eat the way you used to. Or, years of an on-the-go lifestyle that left little room for healthy eating habits may have taken their toll on you. Whatever the reason, you can be sure that it’s possible to use calorie counting as a tool to overcome your weight issues. (The End)
